Matti Egglestone & Ellie Dickinson were crowned North Westion Regional champions on Saturday at Southport.
Thursday 19th April was our first session of the 2012 season, on cloudy night it was unclear how many riders would come time, however we should never have been worried as the riders started turning up it became apparent that the riders from last year were definitely back & one by one new riders were signing on.
The riders were split into three groups with Phil taking the older children, Jonathon & his young volunteer Charlotte taking a handful of under 7's & Bob coaching senior riders & older youth riders on the grass track.
So it looks like we are going to be very busy over the next few months, to help us cope with the numbers of riders we have Stephen Egglestone & Jonathon Walkingshaw going on a British Cycling level 2 course & a number of parents wanting to gain the British Cycling level 1 qualification.
So if you are keen to be either a helper or coach please get in touch & we can discuss the way forward. We will also have 7 of our youth members helping out over the summer as they are working towards the British Cycling Young Volunteers award.
Thanks to everyone that came down & hope to see you all this Thursday.
I would like to let you all know that this season's grass track and Go-Ride begins again on Thursday 19th April at Frenchfield. We have changed the format a little since last year and your opinion on the change would be welcome.
We would like everyone to sign in and out (this is a process we need to complete for our progression to clubmark). Once you have signed in and paid your £2 you will then be given a bib to wear (if you are a Go-Rider) and for those grass tracking you will then go and get sized up for a bike. Please do not get the bike before you have paid and signed in. Parental consents for those under 16 will also need to be completed, but once completed you will not have to complete it again this season. The session will start at 6.15pm for signing on and 6.30pm for the session and fun to start.
As last year for those who have not rejoined the club yet, you will be able to ride for three weeks and on the third week we would ask if you could join the club. The membership fee has remained the same as last year which is £5 for under 16's and £10 for over 16 and adult. Can I just remind grass trackers that if you are wanting to use your own cycling shoes, could you please bring your own pedals. We would very much like to get parents involved this year to help with the younger Go-Riders and any help would be greatly appreciated especially in the summer months.
We will also be running the Young Volunteers scheme with British Cycling, whereby youngsters from year 9 onwards (or 13 years of age) can sign up to the scheme to help the younger members enjoy the sport. Trips to Manchester are involved for presentations etc however, if we can get enough young volunteers we could hold them on a club night with British Cycling coming to us. For the bronze award, 12 hours of volunteering are involved. For more information on this either speak to me on club nights, email me or check on British Cycling website.
We are also in the process of organising some trips to the BMX centre at Manchester Velodrome and dates will follow after this has been confirmed. This will be open to members only though, so check your membership and due to limted places will be on a first come, first served basis. We also have started to hold cluster sessions at Manchester Velodrome to ride the track. Riders must be aged 9 years or over for this. The cost of these trips is usually £10 which includes track time, coaching and bike hire. The sessions usually last for three hours. Transport is not included in this fee. If you would like to be considered for the next trip which will be around the end of May then drop me an email to let me know.
We will also be holding our grass track event on 21 July at Frenchfield as we did last year, which will include some Go-Ride racing for the younger members. This will be a Northwest Divisonal Grass Track round as per last year so it would be great if we could have as many adults riding as possible. Another date for your diary is the Go-Ride Games which will be taking place on the 19th August at Frenchfield. This event will have primarily three different cycling disciplines including mountain biking and track to mirror the Olympics which will have just finished. There will be lots of prizes to be won, so keep an eye on the website We are also hoping for a special guest to open this event. In the week prior to the Go-Ride Games we will be having a two day summer camp (venue to be confirmed) which will include cycling skills and fun games. Check out the website for more information on this.
Can I also remind that membership runs from January to December. Thank you all for your continued support. Any queries, just drop me an email.
