I am going to Tanzania in July with a group of school children for 3 weeks. In 2009, a group went over taking quite a few bikes in a container for a school in Bogamayoo. When we go in July we are going to see this group of children. They have appealed to us to see if we have any old cycle helmets and jerseys etc that we could take over with us. Would any of your members have any jerseys or helmets they would like to donate to this trip that they no longer use? The children have really taken with cycling and are doing runs of up to 70k with great enthusiasm. Helmets and jerseys are a rarity in this part of the country and the school is keen to encourage more youngsters to start cycling - they have been watching races on the TV and are very keen. The children are aged between 12 and 18.
We have had a couple of pairs of shoes donated, however, they are using normal peddles and not cleats so these are not really of any use to them, unless we supply pedals as well which could be difficult.
Let me know if you could help us - this would be greatly appreciated.
A flickr account has been set up for all Beacon Wheelers photographs so if you have any photos whether its a social event, racing or simply a club run please contact us.

I am pleased to announce that we have purchased 4 track bikes ready for the 2011 season, the track bikes will be suitable for children aged between 7-11 years old so the bikes will be perfect for beginners.
