About UsBeacon Wheelers was reformed in May 2010 by former member Raymond Powley the club was founded in 1926 but disbanded in 1958. Beacon Wheelers had a long history of Grass track racing as many of it's former members raced & won races all over the North West of England & Scotland from 1926 to 1958, the current members are looking to emulate the past Beacon Wheelers riders.
Raymond Powley brought Beacon Wheelers back to life by organising a weekly grass track coaching sessions in May 2010 at Frenchfield Penrith where we encouraged new riders of all ages & abilities to participate. By the end of the 2011 we are hoping to have over 100 members which we are looking to grow over the coming years to become a Cumbria's most sucsessful cycling club. We are a British Cycling go-ride registered club with the aim of becoming a go-ride/clubmark club by the end of 2011. With the help & support from Eden District Council, Beacon Wheeler's have secured the use of a 300m grass track & a grassed skills area at Frenchfield Sport Centre, Penrith which is used for our Thursday night coaching sessions. To enable our members to race we are affiliated to to following: British Cycling, Cycling Time Trials, British School Cycling Association, CDNW Road Race League (2012) & CTC.
