What is cyclo-cross?
Racing takes place in Autumn and winter and consists of many laps of a short course which can feature pavements, woodland, grass, steephills and obstacles. For adults they are often required to dismount and carry their bikes over an obstacle then remount and carry on racing.
Tactics?
Cyclo-cross tactics are very straighforward, such as the riders aerobic endurance and bike handling skills are whats important. You can also change your bike and receive mechanical assistance during the race.
What kind of bike do I use?
For children they can race on their mountain bikes, for the more serious cylo-crosser, they ride bikes which look like racing bikes but it is the frame geometry that is different. The cyclo-cross bikes have a bigger wider clearance for using large tyres - a bit like mountain bike tyres.
